Update of Progress

Animation is done and rendered out in 1080p ready and raring to go!
Game although slightly buggy is ready to go, would like to get rid of the bug where you can drive through cars if you don't press any buttons, has anyone got any idea as to how this would be coded?
Website is nearly done, just got to pop the final shock-wave file in it, then its a case or arranging folders and making packaging...

what do you think of this design for a DVD cover?

Interactive Piece so far

So I've knuckled down and started my interactive piece, got a menu, where you scroll over different parts of the bike, and each different part, takes you to a different place, e.g. clicking the engine starts the game. I also have the level and some vehicles ready to go into director, the background will be an animated gif, of 56 images played over and over in a look, giving the impression of movement.

3D Progression 2.1

oh yes people! we are in the 2'S everything is modeled and finished and i was on 3Ds last night playing around with materials and renders last night to get this:

Please excuse the dodge backdrop, this is whats being reflected, I'd like to thank Karl for the help on that. what do you guys think? Help me decided what ones better? It's probably the first one, but that's meant to be red as well?

3D Progression 1.7

Well, in all honesty, i think I'm actually done in terms of modeling, but I'd like to know your opinion, and that means everyone's opinion, even if you don't like chopper bikes, I'm pondering on whether it needs a front fender, and no, it doesn't need a speedometer, real men don't need a speedometer....
going to add colour now, any thoughts on that in terms of colour styles? i was thinking red with black chrome, or blue with silver chrome?

anywho here they are:

3D Progression 1.6

let me know what you guys think, and enjoy...

Motion Graphics

First of all, what is a motion graphic?

Well, a piece of graphic design, doesn't have to be static, it can move, and be manipulated. This is where the word motion comes in. Therefore a motion graphic, or motion design is a piece of work that may take graphical design, animate it/ manipulate it and make it into a moving piece of design.

Motion graphics, tend to be used in things such as adverts, music videos and movies, the most popular use i have seen is for adverts and movie credits. This may be due to the fact that the programmes required, like that of Adobe after effects are readily available and once used, relatively easy to use and get along with. However a programme like that of Adobe After Effects doesn't have to be used to make a motion graphic, for example it could be done in a simple video editing software, i feel a good example of this is:

This is due to the fact that i can see it has used a range of programmes for it to be made, for example it shows 3D animation in a real world environment, confirming what was said above, that a motion graphic could be done in a programme such as 3Ds Max or manipulated to look like this in one such as motion if the correct effects and techniques are used. Another example of this also by MTV is:

However i can see that this one may have been made using a particle system, and manipulated into the correct shape, the only thing that i can make that from is the particle shapes themselves, as they look a bit un-natural and triangular, like that that can be made in both motion and 3Ds Max. The leads onto the fact that i have noticed MTV have a lot of nice motion graphic Indents ranging from the ones above to this one:

Some meaning full to MTV and others completely bizarre, but so clever they're memorable, meaning the channel is also remembered. The above motion graphic is one of my favourites and one i have referred back to a lot in previous works, this is because the motion of the figure and the hair on the figure flows brilliantly, it seems as though it is doing, what real hair in those circumstances would do, for example when it is long, it Waves, but when it is spiky it's rigid and only moves at the bottom. This is also another perfect example of a motion graphic that may have been done on either type of programme.

One more piece i have looked at, that i think it truly brilliant:

Droplets 2 launch teaser from ciaran on Vimeo.

I like this piece because it has the perfect blend of graphics and sound, that both enhance each other, for example you have the text moving into place, with the sound of it hitting something making the impact that much more effective. I also like the fact that it has a mix of sensible, and fun, for example the back ground ambiance music seems to make it feel serious, but then the sound effects over the top, such as the *boing* make it comic. This is yet another great example showing it can be done on various programmes, and still have a brilliant end result, for example if it was done in a 3D programme, it could be rendered then sounds added in a separate programme, the only problem with this method would be the potential loss of quality through exports, or it could all be done in a programme such as After Effects using the correct emitters, shapes, filters and effects.
Overall I can see and understand that motion graphics aren't as simple as they first look, and they still follow the same principles as that of normal graphics, taking into account aspects such as colour, and overall feel about it whether it is happy or sad etc, however extra aspects such as timing, what effects work where and how they are to be used in conjunction with movement or time have to be accounted for, making it that little bit more complicated that normal graphic design.

3D Progression 1.5

another step further! brake lines, bolts and frot brake pedal...

Sunday 28 February 2010

3D Progression 1.4

So as explained in my previous 3D post, i have complete the bike, in terms of parts etc, it just needs those finishers such as bolts, brakes, pedals, and various wires and connecters, my aim for this to be completed is the end of the week/ beginning of next week at the latest. Heres an update, i have added some bolts to the ending, grips and brake levers, and some of the brake system...

Some Preliminary

The first two are some destailed pictures of choppers i have drawn, the first one being a drawing from a picture, and the second my very own design like that of the one i am making in 3D.
No unfortunately i didnt leave enough room on the page for a front wheel, to my despair, both times, however the next couple are just some early ideas, and quick doodles.

Thursday 18 February 2010

3D Progression 1.3

Not a lot has changes, have played about with the exhaust, and added a couple of little trinkets to the bike, for example the start of the front lamp, spark plus leads etc, also, i have changed the wheels, after discussing it with Karl, the look out of place, flat and wide.

As a whole, i dont think i am too far from finishing this off, at a face count of 216000 i hope so, i need to add small things such as the chain, the sprocket, the bakes, finish the handlebarsn, and maybe a front fender (give me your opinion on that please) and the pedals and its more or less done.

So here we are:

Wednesday 17 February 2010

3D Progression 1.2

Update on how my chopper is coming along, i have done a lot since i have last put it up on the blog, this includes tidying up the wheels, adding extra engine parts, exhausts etc and the start of the little details, as in the engine supports etc...

Game

The game below is one a lot like the one i would like to create for my FMP, obviously with a couple of changes, for example, the music is a little cheesy, and replace the car with a chopper motorcycle, this will be option 1.
I am wondering if this is possible?
I may use the game engine that mark has been looking at, however if it is not possible, on that particular engine, i will have the game where the car is seen from above this will be option 2.

How in the....?

in all fairness, this baffled me, im still looking into it and still don't understand 100% how it works, this has been a great interest to me over the last couple of months when i found it. Nothing is clearly indicating how it all joins, i understand the principles, just not the drive and the movement, and how its all pieced together...

3D Progression 1.1

Here's an update on how the 3D is going

Thursday 11 February 2010

3D Rolling Chassis

Continuing with the 3D feel, here arse some renders of my 3D chopper, I am going to keep adding new ones on new posts, to show the progression of my 3D, any comments and critisism?

Showreel

I'd like to kick this blog of, with my showreel for 3D. Composed of my best bits mixed with a classic song, which my FMP title was inspired by.
